Southeast Calgary Parks: Auburn Bay
One of the best parts to living in Calgary’s southeast communities is being in an area where time outdoors with family and friends is built into the community structure right from the start. A master-planned community, Auburn Bay itself, was transformed from a wide-open prairie to a peaceful lakeside neighbourhood. All year round residents can be found down at the beach, barbecuing all through the summer and enjoying activities like ice skating, hockey and ice fishing during the winter months.
The official symbol of life in Auburn Bay is the classic Adirondack chair. When you see the big red chairs through the neighbourhood, you know you’re home, and it’s time to let the worries of the day wash away. So since time spent outdoors is one of the best features of this neighbourhood, we thought we would put together a list of all the ways you can get outside and enjoy the day in Auburn Bay. Auburn Bay Park and Beach
The Auburn Bay Residents Association, better known as Auburn House, can be found right in the heart of the community. Auburn House, the hub of the neighbourhood, sits amid a private 13-acre park packed with fun features — including skating rinks and a spray park — and brings residents together throughout the year through programs and events.
It is here that residents can also access what is undoubtedly the jewel of Auburn Bay, the lake. While the lake offers year-round entertainment, it is at it’s busiest during the summer months, full of families playing near the water, swimming and having barbecues. However, since access is limited to residents only the beach never feels crowded.
The Auburn Bay lake is 43 acres and is stocked with fish twice annually. In the summer, residents can enjoy canoeing, paddle boarding, swimming and other fun water recreation. At the same time, in the winter, you can grab the skates for a game of hockey or a peaceful skate.
