Charleswood is a secluded NW Calgary community established as a suburban neighbourhood in 1959. It’s nestled on the gentle rise up to the prominent Nose Hill Park, one of Calgary’s premier green spaces. Charleswood homes for sale are largely single family detached homes built in the 60’s suburban bungalow style on large lots. This small neighbourhood has high concentration of home owners with 79% of homes occupied by the owner. It has a population of 3,646 people living in 1,483 dwellings putting it on the smaller side of Calgary communities. It is a house dominated community with 88% of homes classified as single family detached homes, the next largest dwelling type being apartments at 8%. It is located near the University of Calgary.
Charleswood is situated between John Laurie Blvd and Crowchild Trail, between the communities of Banff Trail and Brentwood. Crowchild Trail provides the fastest route downtown with trips taking 20 – 30 minutes depending on traffic.
The closest LRT connection is provided by Brentwood LRT Station, which is connected to residents via feeder bus routes through Charleswood. Residences on the south side of the neighbourhood are within 10 – 15 minutes walking distance.
Charleswood has a multitude of shopping destinations to choose from to cover all shopping needs. Within 10 mintues are both the Brentwood Village Shopping Centre and Northlands Mall. Only slightly further out is Market Mall, one of Calgary’s top shopping amenities. Crowfoot Crossing is only a short trip up John Laurie Blvd.
Charleswood is served by the Foothills Medical Centre and the Alberta Children’s Hospital, both within a 10 minute drive.
Charleswood has one of Calgary’s best attractions in it’s back yard: Nose Hill Park. This vast expanse of greenspace was set aside as a natural preservation area long ago, giving you a taste of the Calgary landscape before development. Nose Hill is one of the largest urban parks in the country and offers endless options and routes for exploration, running, cycling, and more. As the city’s highest point, it also boasts some of the best city and mountain views available. Depending on your location in Charleswood, this gem of a public park could essentially be in your back yard! Confederation Park is also very close, another favourite Calgary destination and on a summer evening you’re sure to spot photographers taking advantage of the beautiful scenery available. You are very close to the University of Calgary, particularly on the southern end of the community.
